Because us New Yorkers are. And with last night's historical comeback, the Knicks are filling the hearts of New Yorkers with so much hope and joy that the city feels ecstatic. Believe me, I'm one of those New Yorkers feeling it! I've been a very passive sports fan in general. I root for my city, but I always just hope everyone is having fun. But for some reason… LET'S GO KNIIIIIIIICKS!! Oh man, it is so exciting that it is infectious. I'm not the only one; other New Yorkers agree. For a city of people proud about minding their own business, we are now saying hello to each other on the sidewalks and using turn signals in the streets. That might sound normal for any suburban or country folk, but in a city where your personal bubble is the only personal space you get, this is wild behavior. The Knicks are doing something that I have never seen in my entire life in NYC.

You know what, it was actually kind of hard to find memes about the Knicks. This is their first NBA finals run in about 25 years, so we had no material to create, I suppose. Which is even crazier, because if New Yorkers love any kind of humor, it's self-deprecating humor. We love to be brutal about ourselves and laugh before anyone else can. I guess us New Yorkers are just so happy and full of joy that we don't even know how to joke about it. How do we make memes when it's not making fun of ourselves??

Nobody loves an underdog win more than NYC. We are always put right between winners and underdogs. We're the city of dreams, and yet our streets are “disgusting and scary.” It's always, “if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere,” but also, “there are so many rats and trash!" The whiplash of being both the most desired city and hated city is exhausting. But right now, we don't care about any of that. We only see our beloved Knicks. We've cheered them on for years, but this is the first time we're cheering with real hope. It feels great! Sorry to anybody who isn't a New Yorker right now.
